7 Things to Know About the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
Plug-in hybrid SUVs have seen a significant rise in popularity over the past few years, particularly among compact models. This category is one of the most competitive on the market, which is why standing out is crucial for success. Fortunately, the Mitsubishi Outlander is a major player in this niche.
Mitsubishi was one of the first manufacturers to offer a serious plug-in hybrid SUV, making the Outlander PHEV an interesting model. The Japanese automaker has more experience in this area than its competitors, which is evident when you drive it or simply consider it overall. In short, if you’ve never considered the Mitsubishi Outlander, it’s a model I highly recommend, especially in its PHEV version. That’s why I decided to talk to you about 7 elements that well represent it.
1 — Proven Mechanics
The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV features a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors. This combination delivers a total of 248 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, resulting in rather impressive acceleration. Additionally, the Japanese manufacturer’s SUV benefits from all-wheel drive even in 100% electric mode thanks to this configuration, giving it a significant advantage over most of its competitors.
2 — 61 Kilometers or More
According to Mitsubishi, the Outlander PHEV can travel about 61 kilometers on a full charge, which is above average. This figure is very conservative as it’s easy to reach 70 kilometers in the summer, as I’ve experienced myself. Of course, it depends on your driving and the type of roads you take. Nonetheless, I believe the Japanese SUV’s range remains one of the most realistic and even underestimated on the market. All of this is made possible by its 20 kWh battery pack.
3 — 1,500 Pounds
It’s strongly discouraged to tow anything with most plug-in hybrid vehicles. Once again, Mitsubishi has managed to overcome this issue with the Outlander PHEV, which can indeed tow. This capability extends to a load of up to 1,500 pounds, which can accommodate a small boat, an ATV, and even a light trailer. Thus, the Japanese manufacturer’s SUV allows you to enjoy outdoor activities without sacrificing electrified driving.
4 — 12.3 Inches
This is the size of the dashboard screen, which is particularly pleasing to the eye. As for the multimedia system, the dimensions vary between 8 and 9 inches depending on the chosen version.
5 — An Elegant Interior
A few years ago, I could have described Mitsubishi in one word (plastic). Today, things are very different, and the Japanese manufacturer has focused its efforts in the right places. This results in a rather refined and elegant interior finish for the Outlander PHEV. The brand has made excellent choices in terms of materials and colors for the interior design. This is one of the most appreciable elements of the Japanese SUV.
6 — S – AWC
If you didn’t know, S-AWC stands for Super All Wheel Control, the name Mitsubishi gives to its all-wheel-drive system. It’s not an exaggeration, as this system is definitely one of the most effective on the market. It’s also what allows the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to go where many other plug-in hybrid vehicles cannot.
7 — Impressive Ride Comfort
This may seem quite subjective, but it’s not, I assure you. When you’re an automotive journalist like me, testing several dozen different vehicles over the course of a year, you can quickly identify which vehicles are comfortable and which are not. I have several arguments in favor of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, starting with its insulation. Road noise is very limited. Then there’s the suspension, which is neither too stiff nor too soft. The steering is light, and the driving behavior of the model is excellent. All of this makes driving this SUV enjoyable, and it’s probably the most important reason you should choose this model.
